Two sites, one library: sync and backups

Keeping a copy of everything at both homes.

updated · Backups · Tailscale · Debian

The setup

The server at Site A holds the main library and service data. NextCloud copies it to the mini PC at Site B over Tailscale, so there’s always an off-site copy in a different building.

What’s backed up

  • Media library
  • Nextcloud files and calendars
  • Container configs (also versioned in Gitea)
  • Notes, Documents, and any other related files

Restores I’ve actually tested

Recently on my everyday PC I had to clear up space, by accident I deleted my local copies of school notes and documents, even a few code bases. With nextcloud it took about 2 hours to restore all my stuff with a 1 GB/S connection.
